What to do after quarantine?

The whole country went into self-isolation regime three months ago. This situation gave me the opportunity to work in my pajamas.

And at first it seemed even cool:

🛌 I could sleep longer, saving time on getting to work;
⏰ Breaks at least every hour;
🥣 There is a refrigerator nearby, so you can eat at work.

On the other hand, I managed to go through four phases of “antisocial” quarantine:

1. Denial and anger. A sharp lack of social life, common “smoking breaks” and the banal morning “Hello, how are you?” from colleagues.
2. Compromise. Skype calls, zooms, remote work meetings and so on.
3. Acceptance. Getting used to the home regime and awakening of the inner introvert. Here home routine and comfort prevail completely, beginning to have control over us.
4. Anger and depression. This is when the ego has rested enough. It is waiting to be allowed to go out in society, hug friends, drink coffee at lunch with colleagues and laugh not at the computer monitor, but to share emotions with someone.

And here is the long-awaited moment, quarantine restrictions were relaxed, and you can leave the house.

What to do? Where to go?

First of all, I’ll go to work in my favorite cafe. Here I can drink coffee, save time for cooking dinner, and enjoy the cozy interior. Overall, it is a good option, and a favorite barista plays the role of society. On the other hand, unfortunately, you can’t work in the silence you’re used to or make an important call.

Should you go to work in the office 🏢?

You can rent an office, arrange it comfortably. A rented separate office will cost a fortune.
And the office in the company has its own rules: working day from 9:00 to 18:00, lunch break only from 13:00 to 14:00. And you must obey the laws of the office.
I do not like to obey.

So where can you work now?

If you need society and silence at the same time, a beautiful and comfortable but not very expensive office, flexible schedule and the ability to be closer to nature, here is my ideal option – coworking 🤝.

The first advantage of coworking – We are better together.
It is impossible here not to communicate with other residents.

Coworking members form community where they meet like-minded people, colleagues, business partners or just friends.

The next advantage is flexibility. The world is changing very fast. Here you can rent a place for a day, month or year, and sometimes even hourly.

Depending on your needs, you can rent a place in the open space or a separate office, rooms for Skype calls or negotiations. At the same time, even if you rent an office in coworking, you have the opportunity not to break away from “society”.

The third advantage is inspiration. The atmosphere of coworking stimulates to work. The design and interior of the coworking space are designed to inspire and help.

💻 Open spaces are filled with working atmosphere, peace and quiet;
🍽 The kitchen is a place of high energy, where someone definitely wants something “delicious”;
🧘🏻‍♀️ Courtyard and lounge areas – you can breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the freedom here.

At a time when the world has moved to remote work, self-education is gaining great popularity. As people save time on getting to/from work and someone even has more days off, it has become very popular to spend free time studying and improving skills or even acquiring new professions. And if demand grows, so does supply. Most offline schools or courses began to work online.

It means that opportunities for students are growing. At the same time, the difficulty of making the right decision grows: which online course is better to choose for yourself?

During the launch of Product School and Product Marketing School online, we thoroughly researched and analyzed the market.

So here are 5 tips to take into account when choosing an online course:

1.  Recording of the broadcast and access to educational materials 24/7. Learning from home assumes  that at any time you can be disturbed by household problems and distracted from current tasks. Or if you work from home and your free time does not coincide with the lecture schedule. Video recordings will be useful if you want to consolidate the material passed. It gives preference to online courses over classroom learning.

2.  Online support, feedback. When choosing a course, you should pay attention to how the studied information is checked, whether teachers are available to you during the course. It will be a plus if during the course you have a common chat with other students and teachers, where you can communicate informally, create a professional community and share information.

3.  Detailed program. The program can be available on the website or on social networks. But if you don’t find it – contact the curator to get a detailed program. In addition to describing the topics and teachers of the course, the program should explain its goals and expected results, the level of difficulty and the required materials that the student must know before the beginning of the course.

4.  Group size. Smaller group size helps to increase personal feedback from teachers. It is hoped that in groups with fewer students, you can get answers and assessments in time. The optimal number of students in a group is considered to be 10-15 people.

5.  Practical tasks. No matter how well you know traffic rules, you won’t become a good driver without the practice of driving. And so is in any profession. If you decide to study a new profession, then only in practice you can best understand whether it suits you. Don’t forget to make sure that your results will be commented on by the teachers.

Online education is a very convenient and useful tool for human self-development in the 21st century.
But be careful when choosing the right course, so as not to waste time and money.

Hot summer is traditionally the holiday season.

The world is becoming more global every year. Holidays are not limited to hot seasons, and you can work remotely from anywhere in the world. At the same time, regardless of the weather, work requires your attention and time 😉

Have you ever wondered how efficiently we are able to work in the hot months?

On hot days, work processes are delayed, we seek more frequent breaks. We want to communicate with our friends outdoors instead of working in an office.

And there are good reasons for this.

Rising temperatures have a negative effect on human brain activity. The temperature of 20-22 degrees Celsius is considered to be comfortable for work, and each subsequent degree reduces productivity by 2%. In 1994, Gerald Chlor, a researcher on the influence of external factors on mental processes, found that good summer weather disorients and reduces a person’s ability to concentrate.

Moreover, in the summer there is a pleasant alternative to office life: walks in the park or barbecue with friends.

So, what should you do if you still need to work, but warm summer days still entice you to go for a walk with your friends?

Our tips:

Take your vacation planning seriously. Set real deadlines and conditions under which the vacation of your dream becomes real.

Create comfortable working conditions. Air conditioning, ventilation, fans – use everything that will help you avoid suffocation in the office. Fresh air is very important during this period.

On hot days, you can often meet freelancers with laptops on park benches or summer terraces of cafes. Everyone at this time wants to be closer to nature and breathe fresh air.

A good advantage in summer is the terrace in business centers or hubs. In Startup Depot you can work in the courtyard area. You can arrange a workplace at a table in the open air or come up with a new startup when drinking a cup of coffee on a bench.

There is even a hammock here, which we consider a very cool workplace in the summer. You will not want to get up from it at all, and therefore you won`t be distracted.

Excellent Wi-Fi coverage will ensure your stable work. Sockets and lighting on the territory will allow you to work in the evening.

The possibilities of the courtyard are not limited to this. Without leaving the city you can organize a barbecue and relax after work. A little relaxation will not hurt, but on the contrary will increase team spirit and motivation. Moreover, according to a study of Laura Vanderkam (author of several books about time and productivity management), it was proven that such a short and frequent vacation is more effective than monthly vacations.

So, we invite you to work effectively (and relax) with us.

A selection of the best and most reliable resources that professionals in every corner of the planet use

Freelance is increasingly gaining momentum in the world, while Lviv and Ukraine are increasingly becoming a kind of Mecca for people who choose to work for themselves from anywhere in the world. According to statistics, our country ranks 4th position in the world by the number of freelancers. Due to the Nomadlist information, Lviv ranks 59th position as one of the most attractive locations for digital nomands in the world.

If you plan to switch to freelance, you also need to understand which platforms will be most helpful for finding your customers and will be safe to pay. We have picked 5 the best freestyle platforms in our opinion, according to the advice of freelancers from Startup Depot business incubator.

Upwork

Fee – 5% – 20% (depends on the price of the contract, the higher the smaller the commission)

Payment – PayPal, Payoneer, direct payment

One of the most popular freelance platforms in the world. The base of almost 1.5 million customers gives freelance specialist from almost any industry an opportunity to find an order for themselves. Most importantly, both short-term and long-term. Recently, the platform launched a premium account for top-level freelancers.

The essence of the change is that by building your portfolio and the projects you worked on, you will be able to choose which projects to show to the potential customer. Instead of throwing your proposal on the “misfortune”, the customer sees in the profile the projects relevant to him that you have picked specifically.

According to the platform statistics, in 2017 the most demanded skilled freelance specialists were Robotics, Blockchain, and Bitcoin. One of the significant disadvantages of the platform due to its massive presence is the large number of specialists from India who offer cheap and low-quality services, so there serious clients and, apparently, professional freelancers leave the platform.

Toptal

Fee – 500$

Payment – Payoneer, PayPal, directly on your personal account

This platform chooses only the “cream” freelance world. As they themselves declare to their customers: “You have a chance to work with the top 3% of the world’s freelancers.” Against the background of other platforms, Toptal is characterized by a rather specific process of selection of freelancers, which consists of 4 stages.

Stage 1 – Testing for language proficiency and personality. It is not too complicated and takes up to 15 minutes of your time

Stage 2 – Technical testing. You are given 90 minutes to solve three tasks. If you decide on two right – you will definitely go further. Tasks are sent according to your data and specification that you send on the eve.

Stage 3 – Technical interview. You will be communicating with one of the company’s engineers. He will give you a few tasks to be solved. It is important to solve all of them if at least one is not – that means you have failed the test.

Stage 4 – Test project. You will be given a project to be implemented in two weeks. After the appointed time, the company engineer will review your results and give the feedbacks. In the case of a positive answer, you become a “resident” of the platform and have access to such projects as Airbnb, Zendesk, and so on.

Freelancer

Fee – 3% – 10% (depends on the price of the contract)

Payment – Payoneer, PayPal, Skrill, Wire Transfer, Express Withdrawal

На Freelancer з самого початку доведеться зіткнутися з інтуїтивно незрозумілим інтерфейсом і необхідністю вливання коштів в біржу. По-перше потрібно вибрати членський план, який коштує від 1$ до 60$ в місяць.

From the very beginning on the Freelancer you will have to face an intuitively incomprehensible interface and the need to pour money into the stock exchange. Firstly, you need to choose a membership plan that costs from $ 1 to $ 60 a month.

Membership plans determine the number of applications per month, the number of external invoices, the ability to apply for high-paying jobs, the ability to customize the appearance of your profile, and so on. In order to have a sufficient number of applications per month and to find good projects, a membership plan is required at a minimum of $ 10 a month.

You can submit a sponsored application (from $ 4 to $ 50 depending on the project budget) for your application to be higher than others. In this case, applications are listed first in terms of the amount of money paid, but only after the rating.

In addition, there is such a service as placing in a sponsored directory. This service allows you to place you at the top of the list of freelancers in the selected category. This service costs from $ 50 for 7 days.

Guru

Fee – 12%

Payment – PayPal, Payoneer

Guru in most is a platform for both web designers and graphic designers. There are two types of accounts – paid and free. However, because of the great restrictions on the services that you can provide, the free is not worth the consideration. Paid rises from $ 12 to $ 45 a month, depending on the type of service that you will choose. Also, when you purchase an annual subscription you will receive a 50% discount.

To submit an application here you should buy “attempts”. You can buy 100, 250 and 500, attempts which cost respectively $ 25, $ 45, and $ 75. So, in order to work here you need a start-up capital first, the same as on Freelancer. It is also important to understand that the service cannot propose an hourly wage but a fixed amount of money.

99designs

Fee – від 300$ (depends on the contract)

Payment – Skrill, Paypal, AlertPay или Western Union

A platform for photographers and designers. Orders – from designing logos to UI / UX designs. The site is based on the type of competition grounds. The customer publishes a competition with a description and budget, and freelancers submit their ideas and decisions.

The first stage of the competition is 7 days. After that, the customer selects several finalists and they pass into the second stage, which lasts about 2 weeks. From the finalists, one winner is chosen to whom the money for the competition is transferred. The process takes a lot of time. Over the first seven days, more than a hundred freelancers are served on the project.

On the site there is a system of marks for contests. “Blind” means that no one other than the customer will see your ideas and suggestions. «Guaranteed» – this label guarantees that the customer will choose the winner and pay him the money. With the submission to the projects without these signatures, then there is a very high probability of the theft of competitive works. The payment level is close to the Upwork.

Every morning, entrepreneurs face a financial crisis, product release, or teamwork. But any crisis is a possibility and we will explain how not to lose it

Former CEO of the Intel company Andrew Grove once said that a crisis destroys bad companies, good companies survive after it, and majestic companies get better after it. In a modern world, a million challenges emerge during the day of a businessman, which he has to analyze and understand how to deal with them.

Such great CEOs as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Elon Musk try to counteract and turn a crisis into their own advantage. We decided to figure out how to do it as well.

Way 1. Cold head

The world-famous entrepreneur John Rockefeller, in the first two years of his own business, faced the world crisis of 1857, which at first shook the States, and eventually turned over to the whole Europe. Speculation about stocks of railway companies, excessive lending, grain and land plots have triggered a blast of financial bubbles and millions of people have lost their jobs. Rockefeller could fall into depression and suffer as everyone, but he found a way out and turned the crisis into the advantage.

During the twenty years of that crisis, he managed to capture and control 90 % of the US oil market. He accepted changes as a clearing of the market and used the existing competitive advantage for the future. Modern entrepreneurs live in turbulent times and should take steps that will benefit in the future. Let’s not forget that such giants as Microsoft and Intel also began during crisis periods. But they kept a cold head and looked at the market with a prospection of the future, not only thinking about something that was around at that moment.

2. Way 2. Think differently

Steve Jobs has become so renowned and unique Yoda for entrepreneurs because he always followed the rule “Nothing is impossible” and did not accept the answer “It can not be done.”

When he ordered contractors a specific glass for an iPhone that they never produced, they were indignant. Especially in terms of hard deadlines. But he reassured them by constantly repeating that they can do it”

In just overnight, the contractors turned their plants into glass production, and in six months they had made the first batch covering the need for the first edition of phones. Jobs’ perseverance forced contractors to go beyond their heads and create a part of the product that millions enjoyed.

The belief that you can do something that no-one has ever done before made Steve Jobs and Apple, the company and person number 1 in the world. What nobody did is not a crisis, but an opportunity to capture the world. Think outside your box.

3. Way 3. Ignore the rules

An American entrepreneur, Samuel Zemurray, who earned his fortune on fruit trade, in particular bananas, is a fine example of how ignoring the rules can make you successful.

For his logistics, he needed to build a bridge across the river in Central America. Without it, he would lose a huge amount of money on delivery of the goods. But the authorities refused him at his request and one of the possible reasons for that is said to be the bribe from then the largest company on the market – the United Fruit.

But Samuel took it not as an inevitable crisis, but as an opportunity. He gave his engineers the task to build two supportive constructions that reached the middle of the river. If necessary, they quickly built a pontoon bridge and could ship goods across the river without a detour. When the United Fruit began complaining, he replied with a smile: “It’s not a bridge; those are just old supportive constructions that nobody needs”

There is always a time when it is necessary to take rigorous and sometimes illegal decisions for the sake of success. Although, of course, it is better to avoid them.

4. Way 4. Expect

This technique was taken by entrepreneurs from the stoicism times. This is one of the exercises of negative thinking. Always try to predict the outcome and the negative variants of the events. This will prepare you in case something goes wrong. You will be ready because you have expected it to happen.

The more you can think of such scenarios, the greater your concurrence is. After all, you are more flexible than competitors and you already have worked out variants of your possible moves and decisions. While everybody is shocked, you are ahead of them.

5. Tip 5. Love your Fate

This is another technique that is worth borrowing from the ancient Stoics. Do not hate your fate, love it and use it for your own good. The famous Thomas Edison was once in a situation where his production and research factory burned down to the bridegroom.

He did not get angry or suffered. Already in three weeks she restored her work and was in full swing. Edison took his fate and used the situation for his own success. Often in the life of the startup there comes a moment when it loses an investor or a talented worker. It is important to understand that we will not receive anything from tears and suffering. This is an axiom.

Those who go to the end with a full charge of energy are rewarded. Think not within your own experience box, but go beyond it. Only then will you be able to see which angle the crisis will turn over so that it becomes your advantage.

A simple guide for body and mind focus, energy and motivation maintenance, stress and depression overcoming, and effective decision making.

Mind

The rule of 80/20. We try to isolate 20 % that bring us 80 % of the total result during our work process and tasks. Focus on them. In the beginning, let’s write down these points in order not to forget them and keep concentrated.

Focus on the most important things. We reduce the influence of non-important elements that clog us up rather than concentrate. Prioritize daily, weekly and monthly tasks and dedicate most of your time to them. By throwing excess waste from your head we optimize not only what we do, but our own life.

Know the result before the beginning. The ability to determine the effect helps to optimize our time and evaluate mental resources which we will use.

Make a book “The store of ideas.” Start writing it right away. This is the place that will collect all of your experiences and thoughts that may occur during lunch or morning jogging.

Do not make regular decisions. What to wear or what to eat are the decisions that do not require your reflection or time.

Learn to ignore. People, surrounding, noise or something else. Log in to the stream and “keep it tight”.
Make drafts. You will never create anything from the first time. It’s hard to edit a blank sheet of paper, so in any case, do not forget to throw in several items at once, then edit those that already exist or, at all, try something completely new.

Technologies

Limit answers to emails. Check mail in the morning and evening. No more than two times a day. Do not waste more than half an hour on it. The answer to one email is a minute, if more, do not hurry with the answer. Skip it and come back to it later.

Turn off notifications. Do not respond to the routine, it steals your time. If this is not critical, they will write a letter, if it is critical, they will call again and then it is worth lifting the handset. Do not forget, it is critically important for you not to fall out of the workflow.

Use shortcuts. Most of the banal functions are performed by a combination of keys that do not steal your time. Get started with the basic operations and go to the programs you use more often.

Schedule

Start with simple things. Do them right away and in the first place. When you complete the simplest tasks, it will give you additional energy to complete harder ones.

Prioritize 1 thing. Give yourself a mega-important task, and so every day you do something that will lift you one step higher in your development. It will organize your everyday things and you will perform them automatically without spending more time than you need.

No meetings, if they are not important. Do not waste your time on it. Personal meetings are needed to make critical decisions. All the rest can be done by mail.

Lifehacks

If you cannot write something down – use a voice recorder. Turn on a voice recorder – it’s 5 seconds, donate them, but do not lose your thoughts. You may need them in the future.

Visualize your final product. Keep this picture in your head permanently and then you will reach it sooner, make it real, or surpass it.

Build mind maps. Draw a map, visualize the problem and you will see a corridor for the solution. Everything is simple, do not be afraid to draw your thoughts and ideas, on the contrary – visualize the final product in order to see the target you want to achieve clearly.

What’s on the market in Lviv?

Lviv is a city of history and culture, but it is not a city where you can easily find an office for your business or team. The market is not very saturated, something that is on the market does not always meet the needs and goals. We have listed several office centers and coworking spaces, which you can immediately pay attention to and form a short list of the best office space to choose from.

Optima Plaza Business Center

Address – Naukova street 7D, Lviv
Class – A
Contact telephone number – 032 224 46 07, 067 341 22 82

Now the business center is a home for some of the largest IT companies on the Ukrainian market – Intellias and Sigma Software. The convenient location relatively close to the city center (20 minutes by public transport) and transport connections (railway station, airport and bus station) is a huge advantage of the office center.

Emerald Business Center

Address – Petrushevych Square 3, Lviv
Class – B +
Contact telephone number – 032 294 90 80, 032 276 27 59, 067 672 67 20

Emerald wins with its unique location in the very heart of the city and relatively inexpensive renting. However, due to the location, there is a problem with the parking lots (like cars and bikes), which are not enough.

Rius Business Center

Address – Akademika Gnatyuk Street 12a, Lviv
Class – A
Contact telephone number – 032 297 18 78, 096 955 44 33

The business center is a 3 min walk from the Rynok Square, with its own car park and restaurant on the ground floor. The only thing that scares away is the cost of renting. Also, the parking is open everyone, so there are not so many free parking lots.

Tech Park Business City

Address – Heroiv UPA 72, Lviv
Class – B
Contact telephone number – 032 297 71 75, 067 67 13 005

The Tech Park is a 10 min walk from the main railway station, 10 min by car to the airport, and a 30 min walk to the city center. The business center has several dining options, as well as a gym and a swimming pool called Sport Life. Again, there is a problem with car and bicycle parking lots.

Legenda Class Business Center

Address – Shevchenka 111 A, Lviv
Class – A
Contact telephone number – 032 244 08 23, 050 337 57 03

The Legendа Class is a 10 min walk from the main railway station with a large car parking and a shopping center on the ground floor. It is now a home for such IT companies as Ciklum, COI and Tickets.ua.

Big car and bicycle parking. 20 min walk to the center. Sufficiently high rent, it is impossible to rent small rooms for teams up to 20 people.

How much space do you need?

1. Calculate the number of potential employees during the term of the rent. Ideally, before the end of the rental period, your premise must be two-thirds filled by workers.

2. Choose premises, that have more useful floor space. Choose an office so that it can be cosmetically modified to optimize the space or the one where it has already been taken into account.

3. Try to make an agreement so that you have the right to extend. Your advantage is a long-term rent. This is the point where you can insist on more value-added for yourself. In particular, lay the point about the extension of the rental space on certain terms, as well as discounts and pricing policy, which might not be fixed due to the exchange rate.

Coworking vs Business center

Coworking is a creative environment that unites people with common views, ideas and work. In fact, in Lviv it is an environment where you can find a convenient place to work as a freelancer or a small company / startup.

A coworking space runs all the administrative issues and save your time, while you just have to work and pay a fixed price without any worries and distraction on other things than your job. However, this is not only a place for work or communication with others. Coworkings should also provide educational content. Creating this particular added value builds a community and ecosystem around it.

Due to the educational component, we can highlight the Startup Depot coworking space in Lviv.

Location – Vesnyana 4, Lviv (lateral street from Zamarstynivska-Lipinsky)
Contact telephone number – 096 832 44 60

Startup Depot organizes its own product training curriculum and senior management marketing programs. These courses, in particular, are designed for the residents in order to deepen their skills in these areas.

Product School is a practical course that will teach you how to create IT products: solving customer problems; working in a team; the processes of developing and launching the product on the market.

The audience of the project – startups founders, product managers with more than one year experience, heads of business, technical and design departments.

DMS is a digital marketing school for IT industry professionals. The program is designed to study and formulate a marketing strategy, work on analytics and work with related tools.

The audience of the project – marketers from product or outsourcing IT companies, startups CEOs and founders. More than one year experience required.

Here you can find several private rooms for teams up to 7 people and offices for medium-sized teams up to 60 people. Also, freelancers can find a place in the open-space for themselves. The rental fee is lower than in business centers several times, and there already is an office equipment (except special equipment), gaming zone, negotiation and meeting room and a kitchen.

How you spend your morning determines how you spend the day. We will tell you how to maximize the morning routine to achieve phenomenal productivity.

Denys Zhadanov, SMO of one of the most successful and most well-known Ukrainian grocery companies Readdle has created a roadmap of his own morning, which he uses daily to perform at his maximum power. He has shared his blog on Medium, and we have chosen the most important tips for you.

The main motto – “Ideas are not worth anything, it all depends on the implementation”. Further, we will talk about how to set yourself for the most productive morning every day.

1. Change the position of your body

You just woke up – do not stay in bed. Do not procrastinate or spit on the ceiling. Get up, go have a shower. Take a cold and hot showers shifts, every change for thirty seconds and at least three times. This exercise will release adrenaline into your blood and awake you completely.

2. Do not check your phone or mail

Do not overload your brain in the morning. You need it at its maximum later. Your task is to wake it up, so do not be distracted by social networks, calls or e-mails. All this will wait.

3. Jog

This is the best exercise for the beginning of the day. Believe me, this will not only burn your calories or bring you to the caste of “the runners”, it activates those areas in your brain that continue to sleep. Remember, your main morning task is to wake the brain, not to overload it. This is comparable to the warming up a process of a car on a winter morning. You warm up all the important elements in order to keep the car up to the maximum.

4. Eat

Breakfast is the most important meal of a day. Your body digest food best in the morning, so do not miss breakfast. It will keep your energy balance at the right level before dinner so that you can carry out your tasks without distracting yourself from the sounds of hunger from the stomach.

5. Write

And even better, make a limit up to 500 words. Brevity is a sister of talent, but it will also make you speak only about the most important things and avoid “water” in your writing. After jogging and activating the parts of the brain which are still asleep, your brain will begin to throw out hundreds of thoughts, dozens of “I have to do” and “do not forget to do” things. Write down these thoughts, segment them. This will discipline you and help to improve your writing.

6. Plan

Ideally, from the evening of the previous day, you would have a short plan of tasks for the next day. In the morning, you need to refine and prioritize the list.
